GOAL II Project Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The 3rd of December is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which aims to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. The day was marked at Swargadwari municipality of Pyuthan and Runtigadhi rural municipality of Rolpa in solidarity for inclusive humanitarian development with the motto of “Unite in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with, and by persons with disabilities .” A total of 130 people, including the representatives of local governments, people with disabilities and their family members, local-level disabled people’s networks, and development partners, attended both events. A forum and discussion on disability issues among participants was conducted, and education materials for nine students and livelihood improvement support to 23 persons with disabilities were provided. The participants raised concerns about the importance of mainstreaming the voices of PWDs in the government’s development initiatives. The event was jointly organized in collaboration with local governments, development partners (GOAL II and Samunnati project), and networks of disabled people. The chairperson of the networks concluded the events by delivering the closing remarks and thanking all supporting agencies for their crucial contribution.

The GOAL II project is funded by the Australian Government and ADRA Australia and implemented by ADRA Nepal in partnership with FIRDO Nepal Pyuthan, and RUDAS Nepal Rolpa.
