Chandni Majhi, an 11-month-old girl from a financially struggling family, faced severe health challenges early in life. Her mother received inadequate prenatal care, lacking essential nutrients like iron and calcium, which affected both her and Chandni's health. Due to frequent illness, Chandni’s mother was unable to breastfeed, so Chandni was fed cow's milk by her grandmother. At 7 months old, Chandni's poor nutritional status was noticed by a community health facilitator from Bagmati Sewa Samaj, who informed her father and advised him to take Chandni to an Outpatient Therapeutic Care (OTC) center. After five months of consistent care at the OTC center, Chandni’s health improved significantly. Sadly, during this time, her mother passed away, but her grandmother and father continued to ensure Chandni received the care she needed, resulting in a much-improved health condition.

Sanju Nepali, a resident of Swargadwari Municipality, transformed his life from struggling farmer to a successful entrepreneur. After working in India to support his family and fund his education, Sanju returned to Nepal, where he was trained as a Community Animal Health Worker. This training enabled him to provide valuable services in his village and generate additional income. Thanks to a 35-day training program provided by the Generating Opportunities in Agriculture and Livelihood (GOAL-II) project. With the financial stability gained from this role, Sanju was able to continue his studies and enroll in a Bachelor’s in Education program. He actively participated in farmer’s group meetings and leveraged the skills and connections from his training to establish his own Agro Center. Despite initial challenges, his business now generates a stable income of NPR 9,000 to 10,000 per month. Sanju is grateful for the GOAL-II project’s support, which has significantly improved his family's financial situation and his own educational prospects.

Bashu Kumari Tharu, a 41-year-old farmer from Bardiya District, Nepal, faced challenges in her agricultural journey when disease wiped out her goats and wild animals destroyed her crops. For eight years, her land remained unused. However, with support from the Samvardhan Project, Bashu revitalized her land by cultivating wildlife-resistant crops like turmeric, chili, and bitter gourd. Appointed as a lead farmer, she received training in leadership, group management, and sustainable farming practices. Under her guidance, her farmer group renewed its registration, opened a bank account, and started a savings plan. A major success was her bitter gourd cultivation, where she earned NPR 70,000 in just two months. Her plot now serves as a demonstration farm, showcasing eco-friendly farming techniques. Bashu’s journey from abandoned land to successful farming empowered her and inspired other women in her community to embrace sustainable agriculture.
