Celebrating World Environment Day in Bardiya

The Health Reform Project (HRP) champions better maternal and child health by recognizing that well-being goes beyond healthcare access is deeply shaped by environmental conditions. Environmental degradation and climate change exacerbate health risks and food insecurity, especially among vulnerable populations. Therefore, promoting environmental sustainability is essential to enhancing maternal and child health.

To advance this vision, HRP partnered with the Division Forest Office (DFO) Bardiya and Badhaiyatal Rural Municipality. Through this collaboration, the DFO generously provided 100 moringa plants free of charge, which were planted at the municipality office and various health facilities throughout Bardiya district. Renowned for its exceptional nutritional benefits, particularly in combating maternal and child malnutrition, moringa offers a sustainable, locally sourced solution that integrates environmental care with health promotion.

The initiative received strong support from the deputy mayor of Badhaiyatal RM, who emphasized that climate change and plastic pollution pose greater threats than any disease humanity has faced. She urged everyone to reduce plastic waste to ensure healthier and happier lives. Notably, World Environment Day was celebrated for the first time ever in Badhaiyatal RM, marking a significant step toward environmental awareness in the community.
