We were pleased to help organise an intensive Emergency Response Team training for 30 ADRA staff from 18 country offices, including four from ADRA Nepal. Over nine days in Dhulikhel, ADRA Asia and ADRA International led participants through essential topics, including:
✅ Coordinating humanitarian action
✅ Applying ADRA’s Emergency Response Management System (ERMS)
✅ International standards for disaster response
✅ Rapid needs assessments
✅ Situational awareness, planning, budgeting, and more!
A special thanks to UNHCR and UNDSS in Kathmandu for training our teams on working with refugees and ensuring safety and security in the field. Additionally, we collaborated with Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital, whose experienced staff trained participants in Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies, CPR first aid, and Psychological First Aid.
The training concluded with an intense three-day disaster simulation exercise where participants put into practice what they’d learned.
The successful participants will now be part of a pool of international staff in the ADRA Network available for rapid response to disasters in the region or globally. Part of ADRA’s strength is the global network, its presence across the world and ability to scale up and respond quickly to disasters.
“It has been an intense, informative and fun experience. We were really immersed in the scenario and were forced to utilise all the skills and knowledge we had acquired during the sessions. It was also a great opportunity to meet and get to know ADRA colleagues from other countries.” Dr Suman Rawal, ADRA Disaster Risk Management Coordinator, ADRA Nepal. ADRA Nepal’s Finance Director Deepa Shrestha, and program staff Rajeev Yadav and Suraj Acharya also participated in the training.
