Distributing 1 Million Iron and Folic Acid Tablets

On July 4, 2025, ADRA Nepal, in collaboration with ADRA Japan and with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MoFA), handed over 1 million Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets to the Bardiya District Health Office.

Bardiya had been facing a severe shortage of IFA supplements—critical for pregnant women and adolescent girls—with three municipalities completely out of stock and five others at risk of expiry. This shortage threatened the health of over 1,800 pregnant women and many adolescents, increasing the risk of anaemia, childbirth complications, and low birth weight.

ADRA Nepal was able to respond to an urgent request from the Bardiya District Health Office through its Health Reform Project (HRP), swiftly mobilizing resources. With the support of its partner ENRUDEC, they successfully procured and distributed the needed tablets, ensuring a timely intervention.

The Health Reform Project is a three-year initiative focused on improving health outcomes and sanitation practices in Bardiya District through enhanced nutrition monitoring systems, dedicated facilities, community engagement, and access to clean water. It is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yamaha Japan, and ADRA Japan, and implemented by ADRA Nepal in partnership with ENRUDEC Banke.

Special thanks to all for the additional support for the procurement and distribution of IFA tablets.
