A workshop on Urban Disaster Risk Reduction was conducted on 20 August 2019 in Kathmandu. Rapid and unplanned urbanisation in Nepal led to urban vulnerabilities for disasters such as earthquake and flooding. This calls for an urgent need to urban focused DRR interventions.
Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Community Based Disaster Risk Management Platform, in partnership with Safer Cities Consortium including ADRA Nepal, organized the learning workshop.
The workshop aimed at engaging relevant stakeholders to share and discuss learning of past and ongoing urban disaster risk management interventions, as well charting pathways for future interventions.
This event brought together representatives from federal government, donor agencies, UN agencies, I/NGO’s, Red Cross, local government, civil society organisation, academia, media and the private sector to discuss problems, challenges and way forwards in policies and practices on urban disaster risk reduction.
