Provincial level advocacy workshop on ‘Family Planning among Adolescents’ was held in Dhangadhi on 17 April 2019. The workshop was attended by the members of Provincial House of Sudur Paschim Province, officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Province Health Directorate, and journalists. This workshop was organized by ADRA Nepal as part of UNFPA Nepal Family Planning Project (UNFPP) funded by UKAID/UNFPA.

On the occasion, a two-point declaration was signed by the members of Provincial house that includes commitment of the provincial government to prioritize Family Planning – Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (FP-ASRH) during formulation of Provincial Health Policy; and prioritize FP-ASRH service in Provincial budget and programs.

Addressing the workshop Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Speaker of the Provincial House, Sudur Paschim Province said the provincial house would develop health focused plans and activities in the budget for coming fiscal year to address poor health indicators of the province.

Similarly, Minister for Social Development highlighted the importance of allocating 15 percent of total provincial budget alone in health sector to improve the existing poor health indicators of the province.

On the occasion, Arjun Bahadur Shah, Provincial chair of  Federation of Nepalese Journalists presented on the issues of ASRH through media perspective. Advocate Gajendra Bahadur K.C. from Kailali Bar Association discussed about the rights of adolescents and youths in relation to sexual and reproductive health.

During discussion facilitated by Dr. Gunaraj Awasthi, provincial health director, the members of Provincial House appreciated that the workshop was conducted in the right time as the House is in process of formulation of new health policy and discussion on development of budget and plans for upcoming fiscal year were on.
