Buchiya Devi Mahato, who is 55 years old and lives in Ishwarwarpur, Sarlahi, is an active member of the JanakKrishak vegetable group. She has 10 family members and both of her sons are working in Gulf countries.
Her husband and she were managing daily expenditures by cultivating vegetables traditionally in a small area of land before joining the group. Now, after joining the vegetable group, she and her husband are doing vegetable production in 0.6 ha of land. After participating in the trainings, she learned new agriculture tools and techniques to enhance the production and now earns approximately NPR 150,000 ($1,406.45) in a year.
Also, she joined the Business Literacy Training (BLC) where she learned the alphabet, simple calculation, calculator use and how to prepare a business plan. She was not even able to write her name before, but now she confidently writes her name and feels happy about it.
