ADRA has been awarded a project entitled “Local Initiatives to Reduce Impacts of Climate Change (LIRIC)” by European Commission under Civil Society Organization (CSO) call for proposal. The project will run for 42 months and aims to contribute towards reduced poverty and secured livelihoods in six municipalities and rural municipalities of Mahottari and Dhanusha districts of Province 2- Bardibas, Gaushala, Aurahi and Bhangaha in Mahottari and Mithila and Bateshwor in Dhanusha district.
The LIRIC project will promote practical engagement of CSOs in right based advocacy to engage local governments in climate actions, strengthen CSOs’ capacity and engagement in climate change adaptation and mitigation actions and help create enabling environment in local government towards climate resilient development.
ADRA Austria is the coordinator of the project and ADRA Nepal will lead project implementation, partnering with Community Development and Advocacy Forum Nepal (CDAFN) as a local implementing partner and Rupantaran as a technical partner along with a close collaboration with concerned municipalities and rural municipalities. The project will directly benefit about 2,000 households associated with 100 grass-root level CSOs.
“I hope the project will be able to help communities to understand causes and consequences of climate change and take local initiatives to reduce impact on their livelihoods,” said Leighton Fletcher, ADRA Nepal Country Director.
