Generating Opportunities in Agriculture and Livelihoods (GOAL-II) project is funded by Australian Government through DFAT and ADRA Australia and covers all wards of Swargadwari Municipality, Pyuthan and Runtigadhi Rural Municipality, Rolpa of Province-5. These districts have very low ranking in human development index (HDI) and are poverty stricken. Agriculture is the major occupation of the people; however, it does not generate enough income and employment to sustain the livelihoods of community. Additionally, socially constructed gender roles in Nepal discriminate against women in social, political and economic spheres.

GOAL-II is implemented by ADRA Nepal in partnership with Rural Development Awareness Society (RUDAS) Nepal in Rolpa and Fulvari Integrated Rural Development Organization (FIRDO) Nepal in Pyuthan in technical backstopping by Rupantaran and is built upon the groundwork laid by previous Good Governance and Livelihoods (GOAL) project.

The project will replicate and build on GOAL’s experience in building communities’ collective strength, greater skills and knowledge in improved tools, technologies and practices on livelihood options, especially goat and vegetable, that suit their capacity, resources and market. Lead farmer and technical service providers will be developed to increase local service provision. ADRA’s innovative Farmer Market School approach will be applied to capacitate producers in greater access to market. The proven tool of Result Oriented Leadership Development Program (ROLDP) will be applied to build local leadership. Close coordination and collaboration will be done with local governments in enhancing livelihoods of the people and towards gender equality.
